We’re only the second episode into the final season and there is already more relationships, more blackmail, more scheming, and more infidelity than probably the whole of season 5. I think this season is really clever for its parallels with season one, last week we saw Serena on the train, this week Serena is back to the Upper East Side and doesn’t tell Blair she’s back. They’re obviously doing it to show the growth in the characters but it also shows that some people never change.
The episode starts with everyone waking up, Serena with her new boyfriend Steven, Nate and the Columbia journalism student, Sage. Dan wakes up to Georgina watching him sleep. And Blair wakes up alone, with a classic ‘Dorota!’ shout. At the end of last season we found out Blair’s mom was retiring and letting Blair take over, so Blair had to prepare for a meeting with the Women’s Wear Daily reporter. Reminding us that she is the best maid in the history of maids, Dorota shows Blair her new office which is perfect. “All these years of folding my sweaters and fluffing my pillows has really paid off. You’ve developed taste.”
